ALFN Local Food Club:  Extra! Extra!

Pardon the early weblog, y’all. As you may have noticed, we’re a little snowed in today. So snowed in, in fact, that we can’t make it to this evening’s pickup. We don’t want anyone else risking the roads either, but we do want you to get all the great food you ordered! That’s why we’re moving today’s pickup to tomorrow. If you have an order to pick up, and will not be able to come tomorrow between 4:30 and 6:00PM, please let us know!

In the meantime, there’s no better way to spend your snow-day than browsing The Market, and cooking up something delicious that’s sure to warm your kitchen and your bones. While you’re digging through the pantry, take a look at your reserves. Obviously, Arkansas can go from sunny seventies to sleety single-digits in the span of a single weekend, and it’s probably not the last time we’ll see ice this year. Keeping a few days worth of non-perishables on hand is just plain good sense. If your stock is running low, allow me to suggest a trip to the new and improved Whole Foods Market in West Little Rock. Stop by this Thursday, and not only can you stock up on everything you need to weather the winter, but 1% of sales goes to ALFN! We’ll even be there with bells on! So stop by, say “hi,” stock up, and bring a friend!

Champaign, OH:  You're So Vain

You’re so vain…
You probably think this song is about you…
You’re so vain…
I’ll bet you think this song is about you…
Don’t you?..
Don’t you?…
(Carly Simon-You’re So Vain)

So, I am in a total Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Carole King state of mind, today…

And, because of what I want to write about, here, this morning, well, this song lyric totally fits me.

In this little local market of love, we offer the best of the best in our local products. We are well known for our food products, spices, herbs, baked goods, locally produced meats, local fresh fish, local honey, local eggs, local dairy…we’ve got it all.

What doesn’t always get talked about are our super lovely products like locally handmade soaps, and the amazing oils that are on the market.

Today, I am talking to you about the goodness of these products and how they play into my own vanity:)

Behind the scenes from being your market manager, from being Cosmic Charlie, from being the girl around town on boards, councils, owning shops, you have me…the person, the girl, the vain one who has very specific demands. My hair, my look, the scent that I wear, and my skin:) All important, and all that I take very seriously.

I decided to write today’s weblog because I feel so strongly about ELM TREE ESSENTIALS soaps, and the essential oils from Swisher Hill Herbs.

Let’s start with the soap…Laura Miller makes amazing soaps. They smell great, they lather great, they make me happy to jump in the shower because they are such an experience in scent. She has many varieties but my one and only is the soap that she made and named after me…Cosmic Patchouli. I have been using her soaps since she came onto the scene. They are all natural, very light, very good to your skin. In the year that I have been using them, I have noticed such a difference in my skin tone since giving up commercially made soaps. Not to mention the amazing scent that lingers, all day, after using the soap. Now, I know patchouli is not the scent for many, but she has amazing varieties, and just added a new one.

This past weekend, I forgot to bring home a bar of Cosmic Patchouli from my shop, and when I went to shower, noticed that I was out and had to use a high priced body wash. My skin totally went into immediate dislike. I had to use extra lotion because of the drying effects. I disliked the scent, I disliked that the product was drying because of the chemicals in it, and I was amazed at the price tag.

Laura’s soaps are moisturizing, almost no lotion is needed after showering, they are good for your skin, the scent is amazing, one bar lasts a super long time, AND…the price is SO affordable. I urge everyone to order just one bar of her soap, this week. Try her soap in this awful cold weather. Your skin will thank her…

Oils…they are essential! And, we have oils on our market. Charlene and Joe Stapleton of Swisher Hill Herbs have quite an array of oils.

In my vain life, I like to smell really good. I love to have a signature scent. I like what oils can do to improve skin tone, I love that the scent lingers on your clothing, on your skin, and I love that the price tags on these oils are, again, UNBELIEVABLY, affordable.

Charlene can tell you about each oil, their uses, what can be done with them, and why you need them in your life.

My personal favorite…DRUMROLL…her essential Patchouli oil. I use an all natural, no frills body lotion, everyday. When I open a new bottle of lotion, I add the patchouli oil to it. I know the exact amount to add for my liking. Since I have been adding the oil to the lotion to make my own scent, my skin looks amazing, and my skin smells so good, and, yeah…it’s my signature. And…goodbye high priced perfumes.

I recently started using her Geranium oil, also. With that oil, I like to add it to my face cream. Let me tell you…AMAZING things start to happen. You see fine lines not so apparent, you get a tightening of your face, an amazing glow, and an amazing scent.

Her oils all have multiple uses, all are available on our market, all are so very affordable.

Ok, so there you have it…the vain side of your market manager.

Go to the market site, order these products, thank me, always!!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Princeton Farm Fresh:  The Market is Open

I am looking out my window at this gorgeous snow. I reminded of why we chose Kentucky as our new home! I love that we have seasons and the opportunity to have snow in the winter. The kids will be building snow men before long, the dogs have been playing tag for hours now, and the sheep are blending in, all you can see are their happy noses. I hope that you all are enjoying the snow as much as we are.
I will see you on Friday,
Angela

GFM :  Stay Warm and Cozy !

Hello Friends,

Wish I could follow my own advice, but need to prepare goat, chickens and dogs warm shelter, hay, and food for this really, really cold weather. Not to mention that our furnace is on the fritz, so yet another problem on the farm to take care of. It is always something when you have a farm.

On the bright side, we got another Intern, Cal, from the really cold state of Michigan. He arrived, finally, after Greyhound left him setting for hours, at around 3:30 AM on Monday morning.

If you are out and about, you are welcome to come by our farm “The Ole Farm House” and met Cal, and even throw a few bales of hay if you wish…lol.

Market News: Vendors are eager to take your orders. So place it now.
Please also go to our web site @ http://www.greenevillefarmersmarket.com/donations.html and make a donation to help us bring you educational seminars, music, and more vendors when the seasonal market opens.

Thank you for your help and support.

Northeast Georgia Locally Grown:  Locally Grown - Availability for February 18th, 2015

Hey Local Food Lovers,

Baby it’s cold outside. We’re getting the tail end of winter this week. Please be kind and pick up your orders as early as possible this week to keep our market managers from standing in the cold any longer than they have to (the low on Wednesday is predicted at 6 degrees, YIKES!).

That said, the warm spot of your week could and should be picking up some good Local Food. We have a special guest FARM on the market this week, LoganBerry Heritage Farm from up north of Cleveland are featuring their SOY FREE pastured eggs. We don’t see LoganBerry listed here often so show them some love and order an extra dozen this week. Give some to a friend as a way to let ‘em know you’re thinking about them. I think if anyone gave me a dozen fresh eggs, I’d know instantly that they really, really care.

This week we’d like to ask all of our CUSTOMERS to do a small something extra that will HELP US ALOT and should turn around and GIVE RIGHT BACK TO YOU.

It’s a 2015 CUSTOMER survey! This is the best way for us to get a read on what products each of you would like to see more of in the year ahead. Farmers can peruse this list and grow more of the items that they see are in high demand. The SURVEY also asks a few questions about other ways to improve LOCALLY GROWN and if there are ways you’d like to get more involved and help the market grow.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5ZTGCKH

The survey will be open for the next several weeks, but please TAKE IT TODAY! Cold weather is good for dreaming of spring and summer’s bounty. The sooner we know what’s in demand, the quicker we can start planting it in the field.

Locally Grown also has several new VOLUNTEER opportunities open for the right people.

The first is an “early market helper” at our Clarkesville Location to help us receive goods from farmers on Wednesday’s starting at 1:45pm until around 4:30pm (and they could stick around for customer pickup if desired). This individual needs a strong back as work would involve pulling coolers from our shed and once full from farm deliveries loading them onto a truck. It’s a fun job as it involves interacting with all the farmers during delivery. The volunteer will receive a small food stipend. If you or someone you know would be interested send an e-mail to soque@windstream.net.

The second is one or more people who’d be willing to help put together some BASKETS that we’ll fill with Locally Grown products for submission in several Hall County charitable SILENT AUCTIONS as a way to promote the market. We’re hoping someone with a creative flair would be willing to make these really zing giving Locally Grown a great impression around town. Here’s a photo of something we like, but feel free to bring your own creative ideas. E-mail Andrew if interested at Andrew.NGLG@gmail.com

That about does it for tonight. Stay warm. Enjoy the snow if we get it. And don’t forget to….

EAT WELL,

Justin, Chuck, Teri and Andrew
